Polymarket Shakes Up Wall Street with Goldman Sachs Insider: What’s Their Game Plan?

Date:

Polymarket Appoints Goldman Sachs Veteran Lisa Mantil to Boost Institutional Growth

⚡ Quick Read (30-Sec Summary):

  • Polymarket hires Lisa Mantil as head of institutional growth.
  • Mantil previously led the ETF accelerator at Goldman Sachs.
  • The firm seeks to attract Wall Street liquidity amid expanding prediction markets.

Prediction market exchange Polymarket has announced the hiring of Lisa Mantil as its head of institutional growth. Mantil, a veteran with nearly three decades of experience at Goldman Sachs, most recently held the position of partner and global head of the bank’s ETF accelerator.

In a statement, Mantil expressed her enthusiasm about the opportunity, saying, “The opportunity to join Polymarket is a rare chance to help shape an exploding asset class at an inflection point in its development. I’ve spent my career guiding institutions as they adopt new products and enter new markets, and I look forward to bringing that expertise to Polymarket as we build the institutional business and expand the role prediction markets can play across investment and risk-management strategies.”

Mantil’s appointment comes as Polymarket aims to enhance its institutional offerings following the launch of its U.S. exchange in May. The company has been making strategic hires, including earlier announcements of new additions to its international and domestic platforms, and most recently, the recruitment of Warren Jenson as chief financial officer.

Prediction markets have experienced a surge in trading volumes, largely driven by retail traders engaging with sports-related offerings. As such, there is a pronounced effort to attract institutional liquidity to these platforms. Shayne Coplan, CEO and founder of Polymarket, remarked that “Lisa’s experience and relationships across the institutional world are world class,” underscoring her role in the firm’s expansion strategy.

While institutional adoption of prediction markets is still developing, certain institutions remain hesitant due to ongoing regulatory disputes over the oversight of sports-related contracts. Nevertheless, platforms are vying for larger traders.

The rival exchange Kalshi made headlines in April as the first to complete a block trade, which allows large transactions to minimize price volatility. Shortly thereafter, Polymarket’s international platform also completed its initial block trade. Discussions regarding block trade capabilities on Polymarket’s U.S. exchange are reportedly ongoing, though the company did not comment on this matter.
