How Capcom Achieved a Rock-Solid 30FPS in Monster Hunter Wilds on Switch 2 After a Grueling Journey

Date:

Monster Hunter Wilds Set for December 5 Release on Switch 2

⚡ Quick Read (30-Sec Summary):

  • Monster Hunter Wilds launches on Switch 2 on December 5 with local co-op support.
  • Capcom’s development process aimed to deliver a quality experience without compromising on graphics and performance.
  • The game runs at a stable 30FPS in handheld mode, even during complex multiplayer hunts.

Monster Hunter Wilds is scheduled to launch on December 5 for the Nintendo Switch 2, offering all its free DLC updates, including new monsters, alongside local co-op support reminiscent of the classic Gathering Hall experience from the PSP and 3DS. Capcom’s commitment to quality in this port aligns with its other successful titles on the Switch 2, such as Pragmata and Resident Evil Requiem.

In a recent interview with Kotaku, Capcom discussed the complexities involved in porting Monster Hunter Wilds to the Switch 2, describing the process as “painstaking.” Producer Genki Sunano emphasized the goal of ensuring the game retains its essence and does not merely serve as a scaled-down version. The objective was to bring the same experience players enjoy on PC or console to the Nintendo Switch 2 without compromising quality.

Execution of this vision proved challenging, as Sunano noted that delivering a comfortable handheld experience while preserving the core elements of Wilds was one of the project’s significant hurdles. The game achieves a robust 30FPS in handheld mode, even during intense multiplayer activities.

Capcom also revealed plans for a substantial content update set to launch in 2027, which will incorporate insights and expertise gained from this project. Sunano stated, “We plan to apply the knowledge and expertise gained through this project to the performance improvements that we will be making for existing platforms in the lead-up to the release of Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance.”

The anticipation surrounding the Switch 2 version of Monster Hunter Wilds underscores Capcom’s ambition to exceed the success of Monster Hunter World. As fans await further information on the upcoming expansion, Ascendance, the excitement continues to build in the gaming community.
