- The game has sold over one million copies since its launch.
Bit Reactor, the studio behind Star Wars: Zero Company, has initiated the process of bringing back developers who were furloughed prior to the game’s launch. According to CEO Greg Foertsch, this move is crucial for the studio’s ongoing support of Zero Company. In a recent statement, Foertsch stated, “Having to ask team members to step away after we navigated unexpected business developments outside of our control and so close to launch was an incredibly difficult decision, but one that was necessary to help us eventually bring as many people back as possible.”
Foertsch expressed pride in the team’s accomplishments and gratitude towards fans for their support. “This team means a tremendous amount to me, and I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together,” he added.
Reports indicate that weeks before Zero Company’s release, Bit Reactor furloughed approximately 80% of its workforce, resulting in most employees being placed on leave without pay or benefits. This decision was influenced by a legal dispute between co-founders Alison Kelly and Foertsch, leading to financial difficulties within the company.
While the exact number of returning developers has not been disclosed, a report from Game File suggests that more than half of the studio’s workforce is back on payroll, though many workers remain in uncertain situations.
Star Wars: Zero Company achieved substantial success, selling over one million copies shortly after its launch. The game has been well-received, merging elements of the tactical genre similar to XCOM within the Star Wars universe.
