Nintendo Celebrates 40 Years of Zelda with Major Announcements

In celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Legend of Zelda series, Nintendo has launched a special Direct showcase, revealing a wealth of Zelda-related announcements. This event included the much-anticipated reveal of the Ocarina of Time remake for the Switch 2, new amiibo figures, a special console edition, and plans for a global concert tour.
Switch 2’s Ocarina of Time Remake Unveiled
The Ocarina of Time remake, described as a “classic reborn,” features a unique new aesthetic with a moody, fairytale vibe. Key gameplay enhancements include a manual jump feature and the ability to hum melodies into the Switch 2’s microphone. The game will be fully voiced and support Zelda Notes on the Switch app. Its official release date is set for November 5, 2023.
New Zelda Amiibo Coming Soon
Nintendo is also releasing new amiibo figures based on Young Link and Young Zelda from the Ocarina of Time remake. These amiibo will launch at an unspecified date later this year.
Special Zelda Edition Switch 2 Announced
For fans wanting a more themed experience, a special Zelda edition of the Switch 2 will be available on October 29, 2023. This edition features green Joy-Cons inspired by Link, along with a design echoing the Triforce’s golden glow, accompanied by a matching Pro Controller and carry case.
Zelda 40th Anniversary Concerts Planned
To celebrate the music of the Zelda series, Nintendo is organizing a worldwide orchestral tour commencing on January 23, 2024, in Tokyo, Japan. The tour will extend to North America, Europe, and Australia, with a UK concert scheduled for April 3, 2024, in London.
Details on Upcoming Live-Action Zelda Movie
Additionally, Nintendo has confirmed that a live-action Zelda movie is in the works, featuring Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link and Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda. The film, which will not have a subtitle, is set to be released in cinemas on April 30, 2024, as stated by Zelda creator Shigeru Miyamoto.
New Zelda Merchandise Announced
Merchandise related to Zelda’s anniversary is also on the way. A 1,750-piece Link & Epona Lego set will be released in spring 2027, along with an electronic Master Sword from Hasbro, measuring 27 inches and featuring 15 interactive sounds. Additionally, a playable ocarina and an electronic version from Hori will be available in the future for fans who appreciate music.
