Baldoni and Others File $250 Million Lawsuit Against The New York Times
On December 31, 2024, Baldoni, Wayfarer, Heath, Sarowitz, Nathan, TAG, Abel, RWA Communications, Wallace, and Street Relations initiated a $250 million lawsuit against The New York Times.
Allegations of Defamation and Misconduct
The lawsuit alleges that The New York Times committed libel, false light invasion of privacy, promissory fraud, and breach of an implied-in-fact contract, stemming from an article regarding a purported smear campaign against Lively following her criticisms of alleged misconduct on set.
Claims of Misrepresentation by The New York Times
The plaintiffs assert that the report is “false” and predominantly rooted in Lively’s CRD complaint, claiming that the messaging referenced was taken out of context. The lawsuit criticizes the Times for relying heavily on Lively’s unverified account while ignoring substantial evidence that contradicted her assertions.
Response from The New York Times
The New York Times announced plans to “vigorously defend against the lawsuit,” asserting that its reporting was thorough and based on thousands of original documents, including accurately quoted text messages and emails.
