Sharon Tate, Pregnant Actress, Becomes Notorious Victim of Manson Family Murders

On August 8, 1969, Sharon Tate, a 26-year-old B-movie actress known for her role in Valley of the Dolls and her marriage to director Roman Polanski, was tragically thrust into the national spotlight. The following day, followers of Charles Manson committed a horrific crime that would change her legacy forever.

While Tate was eight and a half months pregnant, she became the most high-profile victim of the so-called “Manson Family” after several of Manson’s followers brutally murdered five individuals at 10050 Cielo Drive, a remote residence in Los Angeles’ Benedict Canyon. This was just one night before they also killed supermarket executive Leno LaBianca and his wife, Rosemary LaBianca, in Los Feliz.

The aftermath of the Tate-LaBianca murders led to death sentences for Manson, Charles “Tex” Watson, Susan Atkins, Patricia Krenwinkel, and Leslie Van Houten. However, due to Manson’s absence from the crime scenes and his subsequent denials of directing the killings, his involvement remains a focal point of public speculation and scrutiny surrounding these infamous crimes.

Nearly a decade after Manson’s death, the Netflix series Conversations With a Killer: The Charles Manson Tapes, set to premiere on August 12, aims to delve deeper into these events. The three-part series features never-before-heard recordings from Manson’s time in prison, alongside firsthand commentary and archival footage.
