Actor Keen Reflects on His Journey from Training to Professional Auditions

In a recent interview with Cultured published on August 4, actor Keen discussed his early experiences in the performing arts, revealing that he didn’t start off auditioning for roles. “My dad didn’t want to hand me or my siblings anything because it’s just not how he was raised,” Keen explained. To build his skills, he attended several major schools to study different acting techniques, identifying himself as a “huge nerd” in this area.

A pivotal moment in his career came when his father, Mark, attended one of Keen’s plays. After watching his son perform, he encouraged him, stating, “All right, I think you’re ready to do this,” following a year or two of Keen’s studies. This affirmation from his father marked a significant turning point in Keen’s path to becoming a professional actor.

Despite his father’s support, Keen’s journey was not instantaneous. He dedicated an additional three years to refining his craft through continued classes and auditions, ultimately leading him to roles in productions such as Nimrods and Sterling Point. By that juncture, he had participated in over 100 auditions, showcasing his perseverance and commitment to his career.
